Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course
Background
The Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course has been developed to provide a standardised training course for all healthcare professionals in assessment and resuscitation of newborn babies. The course will meet the needs of healthcare providers who do not require the more advanced skills provided on the Newborn Life Support (NLS) course or the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). It aims to provide healthcare personnel with assessment and airway management skills to provide effective resuscitation at birth. The Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course will also provide a means of standardising in-service education in newborn resuscitation throughout Scotland.

Accreditation of Prior Learning for Instructors
Instructors who have instructor status for related courses, or who have discipline-specific clinical skills expertise, including teacher preparation courses, as agreed by the discipline-specific Working Groups should attend an SMMDP Instructor 'bridging' session and undertake one course as an Instructor Candidate (IC) . Once they have successfully completed their IC course, they are certified as full Instructors for the relevant programme. Their Instructor registration starts from the date of the successfully completed Scottish Multiprofessional Maternity Development Programme course.
Learning Resources
The Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course learning resource is the Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course Manual, edited by the Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Working Group on behalf of the Scottish Multiprofessional Maternity Development Group. A sample of the Manual Contents and Introduction can be downloaded for viewing. The course materials, including slide sets and manual, are available on application to the SMMDP Administrator.
